ID Harddisk SmartChecker is a scanning, monitoring and checking mechanism for PC, providing optimal functioning parameters.
Pros: Checks status of disks in the computer system. Any change detected in the parameters for checking, alerts are raised. Sound alerts could also be used. Operating temperature is continually monitored. A limit can be set beyond which alerts would be raised and PC shut down. This can be set by user and all active files are saved first.
Several options allow the user to set whether the checker starts on boot up, if events will be logged along with system events, emergency PC hibernation. One could also set if the alerts be in the pop-up form along with sound.
The checker can also monitor if e-mail has arrived and set alerts. Alerts are also set if there has been any change in the disk status, clearly tracking if unauthorized changes have taken place. Logs are another way of recording history of changes. One could store them for as long as required or simply clear them everyday.
The graphic interface is simple and quite easy to use and fairly intuitive. The application itself has a small footprint on the disk.
Cons: While for personal use this is alright, the product would make more sense if computers in a networked can be monitored centrally. That would ease the job of an administrator in a SME kind of set up, even a large enterprise possibly.
E-Mail alerts feel a little out of place as the e-mail application provides alerts anyway. The combination of disk parameters with e-mail arrival alerts does not really make much sense.
Application for a simple role, easy to use and fairly well designed except for the comment above. Overall I would think this is a 3 star application.
